GTI Hosts NMMC Advanced Practice Residents & Fellows

Madison County, MS | The South's Largest Advanced Simulation Training Laboratory, announced this spring, a collaborative agreement with North Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC) which will significantly enhance nurse practitioner and physician assistant training. NMMC is one of only three healthcare entities in the nation and the sole entity in the state of Mississippi, to offer a 12-month Clinical Residency for Advanced Practice Providers.

North Mississippi Health Services, headquartered in Tupelo, Miss., employs nurse practitioners throughout its system. NMHS serves 24 counties in north Mississippi and northwest Alabama

NMMC also offers a year-long Advanced Practice Clinician Fellowship Program, a robust nursing continuing education program and the state’s first APC Leadership Development Institute for nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Our nurse practitioners work with experienced preceptors in a variety of practice settings, all with flexible hours, competitive salaries and great benefits. NMMC is committed to cultivating an environment where nurse practitioners can reach their full potential.

The 12-month residency program provides 1,000 clinical hours and will include specialty rotations that NPs and PAs may not otherwise have access to. Residents receive a salary and have the opportunity to apply for job openings within the healthcare system once completing the residency.

GTI will offer advanced kinetic, analytical and critical-thinking training during a 1-week long intense training program. Residents will travel to central Mississippi completing a 40-hour advanced simulation program which includes didactic, bio-skills, cadaver labs, simulated patient evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. GTI utilizes live actors, hi-fidelity simulation labs and cadaveric tissue in all of its training programs. Curricula includes advanced suturing techniques, primary care procedures, emergency department kinetic skills and radiological interpretation.

The final day is a culmination of the all the skills and training the residents receive by experiencing an individual evaluation in the Simulation Suites which is videotaped and evaluated by experienced GTI faculty. GTI is proud to announce its relationship with innovative healthcare systems like NMMC which provide cutting-edge education and training to our state's advanced healthcare providers.
